Retiro Park is the city's green lung. Situated in the centre, it’s a peaceful territory stretching to 140 hectares and offering nice walking paths. The park was established in the 17th century and belonged to the royal family until it was opened to the public in the 19th century. Aside from the park's several recreation zones and fountains, there's a lake in the middle, where you can rent a boat, and the Crystal Palace, a modern glass building that hosts multiple art exhibitions. Staying in hotels near Retiro Park will be a nice choice. The area is well served by the metro, and you could reach other landmarks, such as Prado museum or Alcala triumphal arch on foot.
